Fish Dicks

Updated: Jan 5, 2020

As mentioned in an earlier feed – I take my 3 grown sons on an annual fly fishing trip. This has become a traditional birthday gift for them, as we’ve now gone 6 years running. So far we’ve fished the North Fork of the South Platte at Boxwood Gulch, Troublesome Creek, the Frying Pan, the Elk River, the Arkansas near Salida, and the Gunnison.

The guys really enjoy it, as do I. It’s a chance to get out and enjoy the Rocky Mountain wilderness and spend time together. I try to find a cabin near the river, and it seems the more rugged the better. There’s also some competition as we generally throw $20 bucks each into a pot – winners are the 1st, most, and largest fish – and there is always some discussion about who actually won.

My son Vince, gets credit for title of this feed. He’s created a site to upload the pictures taken on our trips and this is his title. So here we are: from the left - Sam, Nick, me, and Vince.

Vince and I competing for the "biggest". These were taken from the Toilet Bowl on the Pan. Oh - and BTW - I won!

Sam with a slabby Rainbow. He took this out of the Elk River and won the biggest and 1st!

Nick with a nice Brownie taken out of the Boxwood Gulch.

We also have the luxury of having our own gourmet cook with us on each trip – Sam! Here is a muffaletta that he made for our lunch on a trip to Salida:

Here we are again - at Troublesome Creek
